A 3 yr old’s first flight in a Sonex

I took up my daughter, Selina, for the first time this past week on Friday. We bought a booster seat, but we’ll have to return it as it’s too big length wise and gets in the way of the control stick. We ended up boosting her up with a folded blanket.

She had a blast, didn’t cry one bit. She did have to hold her headset in place for the entire flight, so that’s a little problem we’ll have to solve, but otherwise, it should all work out just fine.

She is a bit too short to be able to see outside unless I put the plane in a turn, so we may have to try and boost her up a bit more. It was fun to finally take her flying. I look forward to hundreds of more hours with my girls.

My wife goes for her first flight

Recently, I was signed off by Jeff Mountain for completion of the Sport Pilot requirements in a Legend Cub. A few weeks later weather improved enough for me to take my wife, Liz, on her first flight in a light plane. She also became my very first passenger (that was not an instructor). It was a perfect day, wind was 0-2 mph straight down the runway, nice and clear, and little thermal activity. I couldn’t have picked a better day. My wife was very nervous, but came away feeling safe and having enjoyed her first flight. Below is some video footage she took of this memorable event.
